Our Contribution to
SDG Logo

Nueva Acrópolis is part of civil society in 54 United Nations member countries. This organization adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015 after a process of dialogue and consensus among multiple public and private actors. This framework facilitates communication and partnerships to achieve the 17 global goals proposed by the agenda. Consequently, the OINA General Assembly agreed in 2020 to adhere to the UN’s call to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included in the so-called 2030 Agenda and to promote the need to generate greater awareness of unity and solidarity to see them fulfilled.

Why collaborate?

As a philosophical organization, we believe that anything that unites human beings deserves an opportunity to be promoted, supported, and enhanced. The SDGs provide a common language for those of us working on complex issues facing humanity today. In the face of the great crises that future generations will encounter, it is time to build bridges and partnerships to help thousands of people in need.

What is our philosophical stance on the SDGs?

We consider the contribution of conscious, resilient, and committed individuals to their own transformation and values such as solidarity and compassion as essential in solving the current problems facing humanity. Transforming apathy and indifference into understanding, generosity, and volunteerism is something we have been doing since the founding of Nueva Acrópolis.

At the core of the SDGs is an educational and cultural transformation that leads us to build rather than destroy, to investigate and discern rather than merely opine, and to act rather than criticize. Our organizational focus is to contribute to a cultural, philosophical, and educational transformation. This is why our contribution to the SDGs is fundamentally rooted in our pedagogical and humanistic vocation.

SDG 4 - Quality Education

New Acropolis’ main contribution is to Education through its Philosophy program and various activities promoting philosophy and culture. These activities represent more than 60% of OINA’s global actions. Our educational programs are accessible to all ages, in over 400 cities worldwide, and promote, among other things, a new conception of the Human Being and nature, a greater capacity to respond to adversity, and a practical exercise of values such as solidarity and generosity. Additionally, we promote philosophical reflection inspired by classical thinkers from the East and West, applied to the current situations humanity faces.

For nearly two decades, we have celebrated World Philosophy Day, promoted by UNESCO, in hundreds of cities with thousands of participants. Together, we reflect on topics such as values related to promoting a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, the appreciation of cultural diversity, and the contribution of culture to sustainable development. See indicator 4.7 of the 2030 Agenda.

SDG 15 - Life On Land

Each year, we carry out more than 600 ecological activities to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of land. Since 2021, we have joined the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Our associated entities and hundreds of allies worldwide undertake actions around International Mother Earth Day in a joint effort to advance indicator 15.1, which aims to ensure the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, particularly forests, wetlands, mountains, and drylands. Additionally, we revive ancestral traditions that help re-educate humans in their relationship with Mother Earth.

SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Our work is centered on peace and building personal skills to first achieve inner peace as a starting point for improving coexistence in our environments.

Each year, we dedicate thousands of volunteer hours to activities that promote a culture of peace, primarily through educational, philosophical, and cultural activities. The indicators we contribute to are 16.1 and 16.b. Above all, we promote respect for human dignity, cultural diversity, fraternity, and solidarity by training respectful and inclusive volunteer leaders.

SDG 17 - Partnership for the Goals

Of the thousands of activities carried out in the semester, 1 in 10 were conducted in partnership with other institutions. The sectors of society with which alliances have been formed include municipal institutions, other civil society organizations, and the private sector. By conducting activities in partnership with other sectors of society, OINA contributes to indicator 17.17.
